Haiti 2010

About Haiti

Words cannot capture the sadness in our hearts as we hear minute by minute, watch pictures frame by frame of the devastation taking place in Haiti, only 90 miles from our shores. We cry, we pray, we scream for help.

We give what we can of the little that we have because it is in giving that we feel we are helping our brothers and sisters across the sea. We follow the news, we hope that our loved ones have been rescued. We pray for God’s blessings to give us strength to endure this ordeal. We pray for strength to rebuild our city with lessons learned uncovered from this disaster.

We choose to ignore those who add insult to injury by blaming the victims who are already suffering untold misery. For what purpose would one throw guilt, lay blame and mete out punishment to the people already devoid of food, water, shelter, family and the necessities of life? If this is the best that a preacher can do, I would rather choose to ignore him and leave him behind. The age for such style of ministry is past. We join hand in hand, pull ourselves together out of the hole, dig the dirt to free our brother and sister and start life anew with love in our hearts.

Amen.
